Event Details

It's National Poetry Month, and our featured local poets including Anne Sandor, J.R. Solonge, and James Zimmerman (bios below) will read selections of their choice. After the poets delight us with their works, there will be a short open mic session that patrons can sign up for upon arrival. Light refreshments will be served.

Anne Sandor is a retired associate professor of English at SUNY Orange in Middletown, NY, where she taught Contemporary Novel and Creative Writing Fiction. Anne Sandor’s poem, Love and Psyche, appeared in Wordsmith, Ossuaries, was a finalist in the 2018 New Millennium Awards, and In Medias Res a finalist in the 2021 Orchard Street Press Contest.  She was a featured poet in 823 on High, including her poem, The Divorce of Happy and Ever After. Her poem, The Last Supper, appeared in the anthology, Strange Fruit: Poems on the Death Penalty. More of her works have received an Honorable Mention. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she holds a BA from Vassar College and an MFA from Vermont College.

J.R. Solonge, Professor Emeriti of English at SUNY Orange, is the Orange County Poet Laureate. He received his BA from New York University and MA from SUNY New Paltz. His works earned him two Pulitzer Prize nominations as well as the 2022 National Book Award.

James K. Zimmerman's work appears in dozens of journals and anthologies. He will read poems from The Further Adventures of Zen Patriarch Dōgen – a volume of poems in the voice of the 13th c. founder of the Sōtō school of Zen – and the forthcoming Unbroken Circle, Unending Thread – a book of lyrical poems that follow the seasons of the year.
