Town Historian Sue Gardner will present some true stories of the hamlet of Florida during the Revolutionary War. Nearly all of the area's able bodied men served in Hathorn's Fourth Orange County Regiment of Militia and were at major strategic locations, and a few served in the Continental Army. Situated along a major travel route for troops, couriers, and officials, this was one of the most active local communities during the war.
Which member of a prominent local family was actually a Tory? What did the Hessian prisoners of war think of the place when they marched through? Who had his family taking refuge here while he ministered to the spiritual needs of Washington and his men? Connecting their lives to our own can bring new meaning to the birth of the nation and what it means for us today!
