Join the Black Dirt Storytelling Guild as they present Tales of our Immigrant Ancestors! The Guild members will color in our shared immigrant background with a wide array of fascinating stories from their own family histories, including:
- Guild Co-founder Madelyn Folino brings us the tale of Rosario & Maria who carried heirloom beans from their native Calabria which are still grown locally today.
- Guild Co-founder Eileen Stelljes will share the story of her German Great-Grandmother, once known as "The Witch of Newburgh".
- Longtime former Florida resident Debra Weber will tell the New York story of her Jewish ancestors, Max and Rose, who fled violent riots in Russia and Romania only to later meet on a Manhattan dance floor
- Retired New Jersey teacher Ken Karnas will recall his memories of growing up Polish and working in his family's Bloomfield grocery store, as well his search to recover his mother's favorite prayer from the old country which graces their Christmas dinner.
Please join us for all of these wonderful tales and more!
Registration Required. Refreshments from family recipes will be shared.
